What EMS does
At Magic Room, a Korean beauty studio in Paris 17 (Porte Maillot), EMS for the abdomen, buttocks and thighs is a non-invasive cosmetic treatment, from 90 €, by appointment.
EMS stands for electrical muscle stimulation. The principle comes down to very little: electrodes are laid flat on the chosen area, then held in place. They deliver a current that makes the muscle beneath contract, then release, in alternation. The muscle works without you having to move.
Nothing enters the skin. The device works from the outside, by simple contact. It is a surface treatment, non-invasive, like the other body protocols on the menu: no product, no consumable, no medical procedure.
The sensation is a curious one the first time. You feel the muscle tighten, hold for a few seconds, then let go. It is not painful, it is unfamiliar. The intensity is set with you throughout the session; it rises in stages and comes back down the moment you ask.
EMS can be taken on its own, or paired with another body treatment — radiofrequency, lipocavitation — according to what Anne settles on after the time of observation that opens every appointment. Nothing is decided in advance: the menu suggests, the conversation decides.
A word on the price. At 90 €, EMS for the abdomen, buttocks and thighs is the most affordable treatment in the studio. It is not a loss-leader. It simply reflects a plain protocol, one that calls on neither consumables nor layered technologies.
Who it is for
EMS is for anyone who wants to begin working on tone in one specific area. It is chosen after the conversation, never before.
- An abdomen you would like to feel firmer, after a spell without physical activity.
- Buttocks or thighs where you want to work on tone, alongside a sporting routine or not.
- The wish to call on a muscle other than through the gym, with no effort on your part.
- A first body treatment, when you are new to the menu and would rather begin with the simplest protocol.
- A maintenance appointment, between two fuller protocols.
How the session unfolds
How the session unfolds
The conversation
The appointment opens with time to talk. You say what you are looking for, Anne looks at the area and asks the usual questions: history, current treatments, implanted devices. This is the moment the treatment is confirmed, or another protocol is suggested to you.
Settling in
You settle on the table. The electrodes are placed on the abdomen, the buttocks or the thighs according to the area chosen, then held in place. The length of the session is to be provided.
Building the intensity
The intensity starts at its lowest and rises in stages. At each stage, Anne asks how you are getting on. We stop at the level that suits you and it can be brought back down at any moment. Nothing is decided without you.
The work
The contractions follow one another, held then released. There is nothing for you to do: the area works, you stay lying down. The sensation becomes familiar after a few contractions, and the rest of the session passes quietly.
The end
The electrodes are removed and the skin wiped. You dress and leave. Anne tells you what she suggests for what comes next, according to what she has observed.

What EMS does not do
What EMS does not do
Better said here than in the treatment room. This protocol has a narrow remit, and it is worth knowing before you book.
- It is not a slimming treatment. EMS is about the muscle, not the weight. No weight loss is to be expected from it, and no one here will promise you any.
- It does not replace physical activity. It calls on one muscle in one given area; it replaces neither movement, nor breath, nor what sport brings to the rest of the body.
- Nor does it replace a balanced diet, sleep, or anything else that plays out beyond the treatment room.
- It is not for the skin. For texture and radiance, other protocols on the menu answer that, and Anne will point you towards them if that is what you are after.
- This is not a medical procedure and Magic Room is not a medical practice. Anne is a beauty therapist. A health question belongs with a doctor.
- It promises no result. What you feel depends on your body, your regularity and what you do elsewhere.
After the session
- You leave straight away and carry on with your day: work, appointments, transport, nothing is off limits.
- A feeling close to muscle soreness may appear in the hours that follow, as after physical effort. It passes on its own.
- Drink water during the day, as after any demand made on the muscles.
- No cleansing off of make-up, no avoiding the sun, no particular precautions: the treatment does not concern the face and does not leave the skin sensitive to light.
- Sport is still possible the same day, depending on how you feel.
- The rhythm of the appointments that follow: to be provided.
Frequently asked questions
Does it hurt?
No. The sensation is surprising the first time — the muscle tightens on its own — but it is not painful. The intensity is set with you as you go, and you can ask for it to be lowered at any moment, without having to explain yourself.
How long does the session last?
Still to be provided. No duration is listed on the studio's menu.
Can I wear make-up afterwards?
Yes, and during. The treatment does not concern the face: your make-up is not touched and nothing obliges you to remove it before coming.
How often should I come back?
The rhythm is decided with Anne, according to the area worked on and what you are looking for. No package and no set number of sessions is imposed at Magic Room. The recommended rhythm is to be provided.
Are there situations where the treatment cannot go ahead?
Yes. Electrical muscle stimulation does not suit everyone, in particular during pregnancy, with an implanted electronic device, or with a course of treatment under way. These situations call for medical advice: speak to your doctor before booking, and mention it to Anne during the conversation. She is a beauty therapist and will not speak in a doctor's place.
Will I lose weight?
No. EMS works on muscle tone, nothing else. If your goal is about weight, this treatment is not the right answer — and Anne will tell you so rather than sell you a session.
